If I am purchasing a new weighing or measuring device (i.e. scale, gas pump, etc.) for use in Ohio, is there a list of approved devices?

Yes.  A weighing or measuring device is required to be traceable to an NTEP Certificate.  Information can be obtained by contacting the Ohio Department of Agriculture, Division of Weights and Measures at (614) 728-6290 or e-mail weights@agri.ohio.gov.  All devices that are traceable to an NTEP CC are listed on the National Conference on Weights and Measures website at www.ncwm.net.

How do I make a complaint if a scanned price is not correct?

If an item scanned is not the correct price, you should contact your local weights and measures inspector who works under your County Auditor.  If that attempt is not successful, contact the Division of Weights and Measures at (614) 728-6290 or e-mail weights@agri.ohio.gov.

How can I be sure I am getting the right amount of gasoline at the pump?

If you see a Weights and Measures approval seal on the pump housing, you can be relatively sure that the pump has been tested within the last year.  If you have reasonable doubt that you did not receive the correct amount of fuel, contact the Weights and Measures inspector in your jurisdiction.

How do I become a Registered Service Person for weighing and measuring devices?

A Registered Service Person must apply and pass an exam issued by the State of Ohio.  The Division of Weights and Measures can send you a packet of information containing an application, study material and a list of exam dates.  Mail the application prior to attending the class with a  copy of your reports used to perform the tests and updated calibration certificates for the devices you would like to receive certification.  The cost to become registered is $30 payable by check or money order at the completion of the exam.  Contact Weights and Measures at (614) 728-6290 to have a packet mailed to you.
