 Allergen Alert: Gusto Thai Preserved Pineapple

Maspeth, NY - Gusto Food, Inc. 51-09 Grand Ave., Maspeth NY 11378 is recalling Gusto Brand Thai Preserved Pineapple because the product contains undeclared sulfites.

People who have as allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites, run the risk of a serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

"Gusto Brand Thai Preserved Pineapple" is packed in uncoded plastic bags. It is a product of Thailand. It was distributed in NY, NJ, PA, CT, OH, VA, MI, MA, MN, NC.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by a NYS Agriculture & Markets Food Inspector revealed that the product contained sulfites that were not indicated on the product label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock can occur in certain sulfite-sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites. Analysis of Gusto Thai Preserved Pineapple revealed that it contained 10.4 mgs. per serving.
