Saturday / Sunday Renewal Date and Penalty Fee Charges

Question:

When March 1 falls on a Saturday or Sunday is the renewal date for retail food establishment and food service operation licenses extended?

Answer:

Ohio Revised Code Section 1.14 states in part "… when a public office is closed for the entire day which constitutes the last day for doing an act, then such act may be performed on the next succeeding day which is not Sunday or a legal holiday."

Therefore, during the 2003 license period, a penalty fee is not to be charged if the renewal application is received on or is postmarked by March 3, 2003.
