Protecting the Environment
Most farmers and agribusinesses hold themselves
to the highest environmental standards. The
State of Ohio now ensures the state's largest
operations follow science-based guidelines that
protect the environment while allowing the facility
to be productive.
The Livestock Environmental
Permitting Program (LEPP) is one of the most
recent regulatory programs added to the department's
list of responsibilities. Program staff
are responsible for regulating how Ohio's largest
livestock and poultry farms handle manure and
waste water, as well as manage flies, rodents
and other pests.
