- As the home
to more than 306,000 horses, Ohio’s equine industry ranks
sixth in the United States for number of horses and accounts
for $2.8 billion of the state’s economy.
- The All
American Quarter Horse Congress is held in Ohio each October
and showcases the best examples of equine genetics in the U.S.
- Ohio’s
Quarter Horses are specially bred to excel at reigning, racing
competitions and pleasure riding.
- Ohio is an
excellent source of heavy, purebred draft horses recognized
internationally for their size, power and beauty. Northeast
Ohio has many of farms where heavy draft horses, such as
Belgians and Percherons, are still used daily for farming
purposes.
- Ohio has 25
nationally recognized Quarter Horse breeders with experience
exporting breeding animals and frozen semen.
- Ohio is a
leader in equine health, boasting one of the country’s leading
equine centers at The Ohio State University, and is home to
the United States Equestrian Federation’s Drug Testing Lab.
