The
Ohio Genetics Advantage
Much
of the success of Ohio's agricultural industry is derived from
the export of livestock genetics. Ohio exports more than $1.57
billion of agricultural goods annually. Of this total, $84.6
million of Ohio's exports are attributed to livestock, poultry,
and meat. Livestock producers from around the world have come
to recognize Ohio as a leader in livestock genetics and as the
home of North America's largest cooperative artificial insemination
company and various national breed associations.
The
quality of Ohio's livestock genetics has not gone unnoticed.
Every year, groups from all over the world visit Ohio to see
the state's superior livestock genetics. Ohio dairy and cattle
producers have long sought to improve efficient operations through
the careful selection of high quality genetics. Because of its
proven genetics, many industry leaders have chosen Ohio to base
their operations including: World Wide-Select Sires, a global
leader in the collection and distribution of dairy and beef
semen and embryos; the American Jersey Cattle Association; and
Jersey Marketing Service; the American Guernsey Association;
and the Ayrshire Breeders Association.
