Mission: The mission of the Toxicology/Chemistry Section is to provide assistance to all types of clients in the diagnosis and treatment of companion and food animal toxicoses, to provide written/oral information to prevent intoxication of animals and to protect the food supply for animals and humans in Ohio.
Services: The Ohio ADDL provides access to analytical tests for mycotoxins, metals, plant alkaloids, rodenticides, insecticides, fungicides, ionophores, herbicides and a variety of miscellaneous substances known to cause adverse effects in food and companion animals. A multi-laboratory arrangement which includes ODA’s Consumer Analytical Laboratory (CAL), along with the Chemistry Section of the Diagnostic Laboratory at Iowa State University (ISU), Toxicology Section at Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory, Toxicology Section at the Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory, University of Missouri and The Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health at Michigan State Univerisity, provide the analytical services. This system has been used for several years. At present, CAL offers analyses for organophosphates and carbamates. All other analyses are performed by the above mentioned laboratories. |
