Mission:

The mission of the Bacteriology Section of the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory is to provide excellent diagnostic service to veterinarians in the State of Ohio through the examination of diagnostic and regulatory samples for pathogenic bacteria and fungi. The Bacteriology Section provides diagnostic services to private practitioners, commercial agricultural businesses, and The Ohio State University. Regulatory services are provided to clients in the screening of submitted samples for federal or state program diseases.

Services:

Major services available through the Bacteriology and Mycology Section include the detection, isolation, and identification of pathogenic bacteria from animal tissues, fluids, and environmental samples. This section also performs fecal culture for detection of mycobacterium avian subspecies paratuberculosis, the organism responsible for Johne’s Disease, using an advanced broth culture system. The lab also performs screening tests for bacterial pathogens such as, salmonella, Listeria, and campylobacter.
