Ohio's green industry
is one of the highest-value segments of the state's agricultural
sector. The Plant Pest Control Section helps protect
the state's nurseries and growing stock by performing inspections
to detect pests that pose a threat to plants. The
inspections increase the likelihood of consumers receiving
pest-free plants and help prevent the introduction of new
pests.
The section enforces provisions of various
federal and state quarantines that restrict the movement
of articles capable of harboring targeted pests and also
provides inspections and Phytosanitary certificates for
shipments of grain, seed, logs, lumber, greenhouse plants,
and other agricultural commodities destined for other state
and foreign markets. The section also
performs exotic pest surveys and takes steps to eradicate
harmful new pest infestations when necessary.
